ABOUT THE DISTANCE EDUCATION

One in seven brazilian undergraduate student is a distance education learner, an educational model that rises each year and it is seen by experts in education as one of the solutions to fill the need of a certain type of professionals in job market.

Students, tutors and teachers, interact in virtual learning environments by the computer that include chats, forum, and they allow a great course progress. The face-to-face meetings are done in the supporting centers that can be schools, the university itself or other buildings. These locals are equipped with teaching and computing laboratories, besides libraries and every resources that are necessary to a student development.

In this educational model, teachers have the role of teaching classes – in distance or face-to-face – and, in many cases, creating the pedagogic project, producing or monitoring the educational material that will be used. This professional also have the role of supporting pedagogically and helping the tutors to mentor students.

The tutor is the connection between students and teachers. They have the role of clarifying the course functioning to the class not only in face to face (classes and duty in supporting buildings) but also in virtual space, stimulating ideas and experiences exchanges.
