About the event


The international seminar in distance learning (SEMEAD) of Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) is a space for dialogs about distance education in Brazil. The next edition is going to be held in 2019 with the intention of debating the contexts, technologies and knowledge building of distance learning, in addition to share educational experiences in this field, promoting subject areas with science work presentations, talks, minicourses, conferences and round-table debate of distance education related themes.

The seminar’s first edition happened in 2012, when the institutionalisation of distance education challenges were discussed from three work lines: management models for distance education, teaching models, law, creation and maintenance of a multidisciplinary team.

The second edition brought together about 750 people to discuss theoretical perspectives and practical experiences in distance education, bringing thematic lines: distance education institutionalisation, teaching experiences, qualification challenges in distance learning and research and extension. In total, 108 articles and 23 mini courses were applied and, among them, 78 articles and 6 mini courses were approved. The event brought 3 talks, 2 round-table discussions, 6 mini courses and 16 presentations, divided by the lines previously established for the seminar.

The aim of the third edition of SEMEAD held in 2017 was to promote reflexion and debate about the current scenario and perspectives of distance education in Brazil and around the world. The event had 3 talks, 2 round-table discussions and 6 minicourses. Besides,  the event had a variety of works divided by presentations and banners, according to the event’s research lines.
